How to Save a YouTube Thumbnail on Android and iPhone
You do not need an app to save a thumbnail on a phone. A browser and the video link are enough.
Step 1: Copy the video link
In the YouTube app open the video, tap Share, then Copy link. In a mobile browser, copy the address from the address bar.
Step 2: Paste it into the downloader
Open our thumbnail downloader, tap the box, paste the link and press Get thumbnails. Every available size appears below.
Step 3: Save the image
On Android (Chrome)
Tap Download JPG. The file goes to your Downloads folder and normally shows up in the Gallery or Files app within seconds.
On iPhone (Safari)
Tap Download JPG and confirm the download. Open the Downloads list in Safari, tap the file, then use the Share icon and choose Save Image to put it in Photos.
If the HD size is missing
The video simply has no 1280 × 720 version. Pick the next size down, and keep in mind that 640 × 480 and 480 × 360 images have black bars because they are 4:3.
Troubleshooting
- "Not a valid link": copy the full link again; private and deleted videos cannot be fetched.
- Nothing downloads: allow downloads for your browser in the phone's settings and try again.
