YouTube Banner Size and Safe Area for All Devices
A channel banner is cropped differently on every device, which is why a perfectly good picture can end up with the logo cut in half.
Size and file limit
Upload at 2560 × 1440 pixels. The file should be under 6 MB, in JPG or PNG format. Smaller images are accepted but look soft on big screens.
The safe area
The area visible on every device is a centred strip of about 1546 × 423 pixels. Place your channel name, logo and any text inside it. The rest of the picture is shown only on tablets, desktops and TVs.
Device behaviour
- Mobile: shows only the safe strip.
- Desktop: shows a wider band.
- TV: shows the full 2560 × 1440 image.
Checklist before you upload
- Is all text inside the safe area?
- Is the background good enough to extend beyond it?
- Is the file under 6 MB?
- Did you preview it on the mobile view in YouTube Studio?
